LACONIA — An elderly driver suffered some type of medical issue before his pickup truck struck several vehicles in the parking lot of a local restaurant before ending up partially submerged in Lake Opechee, according to police.

The Laconia Fire Department were called to 62 Doris Ray Court at 9:23 p.m. Monday for a report of vehicle into the lake with the driver still inside and requesting that Marine Patrol respond.

Laconia police said the pickup collided with several parked vehicles in the lot at O Steaks & Seafood, then struck a tree before continuing on into the nearby lake. Arriving officers with the assistance of city firefighters were able to get the 82-year-old man out of the truck safely and he was taken by ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call Laconia police at 603-524-5252.
