FRANKLIN -- A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries  Thursday in a crash on Central Street, according to Franklin Fire Chief Michael Foss.

Emergency responders were called to 760 Central Ave., near the intersection of Green Street, at 5:22 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.

The rider, a man about  40, was not wearing a helmet and was unconscious at the scene, officials said.

Franklin Fire Department  called for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Air Rescue Transport helicopter, but after learning the response time would be greater than 30 minutes, made the decision to take the victim by ambulance to Concord Hospital. An off-duty paramedic was called in to assist.

New Hampshire State Police Troop D in Concord is investigating and was unable to release the identity of the injured man Friday afternoon.
