Bedford crash leaves one dead, another critically injured

A Merrimack man was killed and another critically injured when the car in which they were passengers crashed into a tree on Back River Road in Bedford early Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019. The driver, also of Merrimack, escaped serious injury.

BEDFORD — One man is dead and another is fighting for his life after a one-car crash on Back River Road early Saturday.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree just after midnight. They found a 1998 Honda Accord with three people inside.

A 21-year-old male passenger was dead at the scene and another male passenger, also 21, was taken to Elliot Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release. He was in critical condition Saturday, police said.

The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was also taken to Elliot Hospital with what police said were minor injuries.

Police did not release the names of those involved in the fatal crash, pending notification to their families.

The Bedford Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is investigating what happened.
