LOUDON — A passenger died Sunday night when a 22-year-old local man driving an SUV hit a tree and rolled the vehicle on Bee Hole Road, state police said Monday morning.
A passenger, unidentified by police pending notification of family, was declared dead at the scene. The driver, Tyler Dempsey, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
A backseat passenger, Leandra Jimmo, 21, of Loudon, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment, police said.
Officers called to the area of 68 Bee Hole Road about 10:50 p.m. said they found a Chevy Equinox on its passenger side on the right side of the road near the tree line, police said.
According to a news release, the Equinox, driven by Dempsey, failed to negotiate a left-hand turn, veered off the road, hit a tree on the passenger side and rolled, coming to rest on its passenger side.
The front-seat passenger was declared dead at the scene.
Police said alcohol and speed appeared to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Dempsey was held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Merrimack County Superior Court, police said.
