MANCHESTER — An improperly installed pellet stove was blamed for a fire that damaged a single-family home on Saturday.

The fire at 181 Cilley Road was reported just after 8 p.m. Saturday by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from a deck, the Manchester Fire Department said in a news release.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly and prevent the fire from further damaging the home, according to the news release. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Investigators said it was the second fire in the last month caused by exhaust from a pellet stove. The other happened at a home at 50 Seventh Ave. on Dec. 9, when four firefighters were injured.

The Fire Department reminded residents that permits are required for proper installation of pellet stoves or supplemental heating units.
