KEENE — No residents were home but five pets perished in a mobile home fire in Keene on Tuesday afternoon according to officials.

Firefighters were called out to 98 Sparrow St. at 2:11 p.m. where there was heavy smoke and fire coming from a mobile home and attached carport.

The mobile home is in the Tanglewood Estates complex.

A second alarm was called in to bring additional manpower to assist.

The fire was brought under control by 2:50 p.m., officials said.

There were no injuries to first responders who tried without success to revive the pets that were found, a dog, two cats, a rabbit and a hamster, officials said.

Damage to the dwelling was estimated at $80,000 and it was not habitable, officials said.

The Keene Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the blaze.

Joining Keene Fire crews at the scene were Keene Police, Swanzey Fire, Southwest Fire Mutual Aid Dispatch personnel and Eversource Utilities.
