A 25-year-old Massachusetts man died at Loon Mountain in Lincoln Saturday after he fell and struck his head while snowboarding, police said.
Samuel Forman, of Sudbury, was found unresponsive on the Flying Fox trail, according to a news release. He was wearing a helmet.
Loon Mountain says its ski patrol responded, began CPR, and brought Forman to the first aid station. Linwood Ambulance Service continued CPR and other lifesaving measures before Forman’s death.
The Flying Fox trail is a “blue square,” indicating the trail is more difficult. Double black diamonds are considered the most challenging.
Snow conditions at the time were described as machine groomed and packed powder, according to Loon Mountain.
“We are doing and will do whatever we can to help the family and friends of this guest,” said Jay Scambio, president and general manager of Loon Mountain Resort, in a statement. “They will remain in the thoughts of many at Loon Mountain.”
Loon Mountain said it does not identify or discuss the medical conditions of those seen by the resort’s ski patrol.
No other person was involved in the accident. The state Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and will conduct their own examination, police said.
