HAMPTON -- Authorities were investigating a suspicious death at an apartment building across from the police department Saturday night.

The state Attorney General's office announced that a suspicious death investigation was underway just before 8 p.m.

Police taped off a small section of the apartment building at 87 Brown Ave. A Hampton police vehicle was parked next to the building while the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit van sat across the street at the police station.

Hampton police referred all questions to the Attorney General's office, which released no additional information. Associate Attorney General Jeffrey Strelzin said he did not expect to release any other information Saturday night about the death.

A neighbor who lives in the complex said police were at the apartment building for several hours, but said she didn't know what had happened.
