SANBORNTON — A town dump truck sanding Hermit Woods Road collided with a passenger car early Monday morning.
The driver of the car, Leah Smart, 28, of Brattleboro, Vt., suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Because the accident involved a town-owned vehicle, Meredith police were asked to investigate the accident, which occurred about 8 a.m. near the Meredith/Sanbornton town line.
Meredith Patrolman Deborah Dickinson said the 2010 International dump truck that was fully loaded with sand and equipped with a plow was heading towards Meredith, when the collision occurred on a curve with the oncoming 2007 Chevy Aveo. The sub-compact car sustained major front-end damage in the crash and was towed from the scene.
Jason Sirles, 45, of Sanbornton, who works for the town’s highway department, was operating the dump truck and was not injured. The plow truck remained operational, according to Dickinson.
“It’s a narrow road and it was an unfortunate meeting,” said Dickinson.
Sanbornton Fire Rescue transported Smart to Franklin Regional Hospital.
