SOMERSWORTH — Police are investigating an accidental discharge of a handgun, originally reported as a shooting, that sent two men to the emergency room early Friday morning.
The pair arrived at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover just before 1:30 a.m. One man had a gunshot wound to his hand, the other a gunshot wound to his thigh, according to a news release.
Police said the incident originally was described as a shooting, occurring after a man supposedly entered their home at 36 Pleasant St. and shot them. However, an investigation revealed that the wounds were the result of an accidental discharge of a .45-caliber handgun inside that residence, according to the release.
Police recovered the weapon and are continuing to investigate the incident.
