NHNG Best Warrior Competition

Soldiers participated in a land navigation exercise as part of the New Hampshire National Guard Best Warrior Competition on April 13, 2018. They had about an hour and a half to find four targets before dark.

A 12-mile ruck march hosted by the New Hampshire National Guard is scheduled for Friday, April 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., culminating the four-day 2019 Best Warrior Competition that was scheduled to begin this past Tuesday at the NHNG’s regional training site in Center Strafford.

This Friday’s timed march, comprising 26 competitors, will start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Route 106 in Loudon and traverse Old Shaker Road toward the finish at the State House in Concord. The event is open to the public.

The knowledge, abilities and fitness of participants will be measured by myriad subjects and events, including an obstacle course, land navigation, first aid, marksmanship and other critical soldier skills.

The competition will test the endurance of New Hampshire Guardsmen, a Coast Guardsman, and Canadian and Salvadoran soldiers, all outfitted in full “battle rattle,” complete with 35-pound packs and inert M-16 replica rifles.

Canadian and Salvadoran soldiers are participating in pursuit of ongoing training partnerships with the NHNG.

The NHNG participants will compete for Soldier and NCO of the Year. Winners will represent New Hampshire at a regional Best Warrior Competition later this spring.
