Pappas and veterans

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, D-NH, was elected by Democratic colleagues Tuesday to serve as chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

The subcommittee is charged with leading investigations nationwide to help foster transparency and efficiency within the VA and all other federal programs pertaining to U.S. veterans.

Additionally, Pappas will serve on the House VA Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, which oversees the education, employment and training of U.S. veterans.

As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Pappas has further been assigned to the Subcommittees on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, Water Resources and Environment, and Highways and Transit.

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation has jurisdiction over the Coast Guard’s duties, organization, powers and functions. It also has jurisdiction over maritime transportation, including the regulation of vessels and shipping.

The Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment oversees the civil works and regulatory programs of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It has jurisdiction over water resources development, conservation and management, water pollution control and water infrastructure.

The Subcommittee on Highways and Transit has jurisdiction over development of national surface transportation policy, construction and improvement of highway and transit facilities, implementation of highway and transit safety programs and research activities, and regulation of commercial motor vehicle operations.
