Henniker post retiring flags

American Legion Post 78 in Henniker held a flag retirement ceremony last year, and will be holding the event again this year, on Friday.

Post hosting flag disposal

HENNIKER — Henniker American Legion Post 78 will host a disposal of unserviceable flags Friday, Flag Day, at the Angela Robinson Bandstand in Henniker Community Park at 7 p.m. Bring worn flags to the ceremony, or drop them off at Town Hall or the transfer station through Thursday.The ceremony is a dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and its symbolism. The post through this public display seeks to enhance respect for the flag in the community.

The flags that have graced the graves of Henniker veterans buried in town cemeteries for the past year will be retired during this ceremony.

100 Nights honors Flag Day

MANCHESTER — The 100 Nights of Remembrance bugler group will be saluting Old Glory Friday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester at 7 p.m. The Manchester husband-and-wife team of Keith and Jennifer Raiche will play Amazing Grace, followed by taps. Local Boy Scouts will post the colors.

Father’s Day flight planned

BOSTON — Honor Flight New England will send 44 vets to D.C. for the day on Sunday. This flight has been filled. Buses will pull up to Terminal A at the Boston airport at 6:30 a.m. The public is invited to assemble to see off our heroes and to welcome them back home around 11:50 p.m. that night.
