Vets Home marking V-J Day anniversary
TILTON — The 74th anniversary of the day that Japan surrendered, bringing an end to the fighting in World War II, will be commemorated in a ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter St. Members of the Home’s resident council will participate in the ceremony, which will include a reading of the roll of the 40-plus residents of the facility who served during World War II. The free ceremony will take place in the Home’s Town Hall auditorium. The public is welcome.
Post 96 rebuilding
DANBURY — Blazing Star Grange #71 of Danbury, a community service organization, recently held a fundraiser and donated proceeds to support Danbury’s American Legion Lee Knapp Post #96 in efforts to get the post hall back in good shape. Named after Lt. Lee H. Knapp, a Danbury resident who died in France during World War I, the post was organized in 1946 and chartered in 1947. Any donations can be sent to Lee Knapp Post 96 at P.O. Box 84, Danbury, NH 03230.
