Elisa Monte Contemporary Dance Company performs Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dana Center at St. Anselm College.
Taught by George Balanchine, mentored by Martha Graham, and admired by Alvin Ailey, Elisa Monte's modern dance repertoire takes a sweeping global view of movement.
Her choreography has inspired audiences all over the world, and her commitment to education and outreach has brought an appreciation for modern dance to young people as well as young dancers nationwide.
From its winning debut on the world stage in 1981 at the Festival International de Danse de Paris, Elisa Monte Contemporary Dance Company has explored unfamiliar cultures and perspectives, incorporating them into performances that feature artists from across many cultures — Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, African, American and European.
