Teen edition of 'Aida' takes over Derry

Shown in a recent rehearsal, Alyssa Beaulieu stars in a teen ensemble cast of “Aida: School Edition” in Majestic Theatre’s Derry production.

DERRY — Majestic Theatre Teens will present “Aida: School Edition” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at The Derry Opera House, 29 West Broadway.

Adapted from the four-time Tony Award-winning hit, Elton John and Tim Rice crafted an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal.

It centers on a love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier that they both love.

The school edition of “Aida” embraces lively dancing, staging and singing. Ellen Desmond directs the ensemble cast, with Keith Belanger handling musical direction and Candace Gatzoulis guiding choreography.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and above, and $12 for youth age 17 and under.
