HANOVER — The Grammy Award-winning Arturo O’ Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra brings its Afro-Cuban sound to the Hopkins Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Friday.
Pianist, composer and educator O’Farrill, a past guest artist with the Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, leads 18 musicians in a group that combines big band jazz with Latin flair.
Together they walk in the footsteps of Latin jazz greats such as Tito Puente, Frank “Machito” Grillo and Arturo’s father, Chico, and update the tradition with new commissions from such innovators as Vijay Iyer, Dafnis Prieto and Michele Rosewoman.
Tickets range from $17 to $50. For details, visit hop.dartmouth.edu or call 646-2422.
