Red Hot Chilli Pipers rock out with bagpipes

PLYMOUTH — It’s “bagrock,” bagpipe traditions with an AC/DC mentality.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers (not the similarly named Peppers) is a nine-piece ensemble of pipers, guitarists, keyboards and drummer.

Altogether, band mates have four music degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and all the pipers and drummers have played at the top level in bagpiping.

Imagine a fusion of traditional pipe tunes — “The Flowers of Scotland,” “The Hills of Argyll” and “Amazing Grace” — and more contemporary anthems like Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” “Clocks” by Coldplay, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams, and a rock medley of Deep Purple, “Smoke on the Water” and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.”

The internationally touring group will shake the Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center, 39 S. Main St., in a 6:30 p.m. concert Sunday.

Tickets are $44.50 to $49.50. For details, call 536-2551 or visit
