LOUDON — With the holiday season speeding into the Granite State, New Hampshire Motor Speedway has traded in the checkered flags for 2.5 million twinkling lights.
The speedway’s ninth annual holiday spectacular opens Thanksgiving night from 4 to 9 p.m.
The Gift of Lights is a 35-day celebration that centers around a 2.5-mile drive-through course with 520 displays and 80 scenes.
More than 650 hours went into setting up this year’s features, including the new Light Co. display with construction-working elves, a cowboy Christmas, race cars and a military display, plus the popular 12 Days of Christmas and the Tunnel of Lights, the 130-foot long infield entrance and exit tunnels made up with more than 25,000 lights.
Gift of Lights will be on view through Sunday, Jan. 5, including Thanksgiving and Christmas but excluding Mondays and Tuesdays, Dec. 2-3 and 9-10.
Admission is $25 per car. For hours of operation, go to nhms.com.
In addition, out-of-car experiences include visits to a s’mores pit and $5 pictures with Santa on Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 21.
