A true light of New Hampshire went dark this week with the death of Carol Ann Nadeau of Concord. The former executive director of a state commission on disabilities was an effective advocate for Granite Staters who face more than the usual challenges of life.

Carol and Nackey Loeb, late publisher of the Union Leader, shared a special knowledge of disability issues through personal experience. Carol’s “Beyond the Barriers” column was a regular feature for many years. (The name continues in a weekly calendar of events for and about the handicapped.)

Carol Nadeau was a forceful advocate who was as graceful and warm as she was persistent. She is probably discussing accommodations and access issues with God this very day.
