The Guard is going off to danger, again.
This time it is the New Hampshire National Guard’s 238th Medevac Company, heading off to support “various operations” in the Middle East. Just which operations and just where are unclear but the Middle East has plenty of places where this Blackhawk helicopter unit may see action.
The New Hampshire National Guard has become such an integral part of America’s fighting forces that some civilians barely notice when a unit is deployed. Others do notice, because a fellow worker or someone’s mom or dad is suddenly not around, and won’t be home for the holidays.
New Hampshire Guard units have been deployed over and over again in America’s seemingly endless Middle East engagements.
For some in the Medevac unit, this will be a fifth or sixth deployment.
That’s a lot of time away from hearth and home and family, things the rest of us too often take for granted.
A deployment ceremony is set for this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Guard’s aviation flight facility on Regional Drive in Concord.
It’s open to the public, which owes a lot to the Guard.
