To the Editor: I would hope that everyone in our General Court could come to an agreement with how to cover costs of animal abuse/neglect cases in New Hampshire.
State Sen.Jeb Bradley has given his time and effort on this subject to no avail. I see nothing wrong with his idea to take 50 cents out of the existing local dog license fee in cities and towns.
I think the N.H. Municipal Association (Cordell Johnson) is using the governor’s promise for no new fees or taxes against him. I’m sure Gov. Sununu has empathy for abused and battered animals in our state.
Anyway, since when does a state municipal association tell our voted-in representatives what to do; they can advise but the elected officials vote their own conscience.
This law needs to be settled before another year goes by. I wish the abusers could be made to pay more and be more responsible, but they lawyer up and the animals continue to be left on their own to suffer silently. I thought of a head tax!
