To the Editor: Preventing crime is about more than just saying you’ll end crime. Addressing crime takes strong community programs and support of law enforcement efforts. Mayor Craig is working hard in City Hall to improve both aspects of crime prevention.
Mayor Craig’s record over the course of her first term shows she is a leader who will adapt and support law enforcement efforts to meet the changing needs of the city. When city leaders noticed a recent uptick in crime they came together to increase the number of officers available on Manchester streets in order to better address the current needs of the city. In fact, she worked with the BOMA to immediately fund 15 additional police officers with the hopes of increasing the total complement by 30 officers over three years.
In addition to working well with law enforcement, Mayor Craig is working to develop programs and partnerships that will provide services to improve people’s lives and reduce crime. In response to the opioid crisis, she is working with community groups and recovery organizations to create a more effective and efficient recovery network in Manchester.
Meanwhile, her opponent, who seems to have a lot to say about crime, brings forward old ideas or initiatives that Mayor Craig has already undertaken. Manchester deserves a mayor like Joyce Craig who is working to address problems in our community.
