Hissy fit was appalling

To the Editor: I was appalled at the hissy fit thrown by Governor Sununu over the Executive Council’s recent vote to not confirm Gordon MacDonald as chief justice of the N.H. Supreme Court.

Executive Councilors Cryans, Volinsky and Pignatelli should be lauded for their votes against MacDonald, who has a long history of striving to deprive women of the right and freedom to make their own reproductive choices. New Hampshire citizens have a right to a strong and impartial judiciary and not only is MacDonald biased and partial, he has zero experience as a judge.

Why would we want an inexperienced person as chief judge of the New Hampshire Supreme Court? Governor Sununu should be embarrassed that he even considered MacDonald for this important job. But instead, he throws a tantrum with shouts of “politicization” and “litmus test.”

Governor Sununu: Go back to the drawing board and pick a nominee who is experienced, judicious and respectful of women’s equality.
