It’s about patients
To the Editor: As a Granite Stater concerned about health-care access in our state, I want to urge the governor to work with the Legislature to finalize a budget that includes the family-planning funds our communities need.
The Trump Administration has declared war on health care by forcing Planned Parenthood and other family-planning organizations out of the federal Title X family planning program, but New Hampshire can stand up for what’s right.
By imposing a gag rule on the Title X program, restricting what doctors can say to their patients, this administration is trying to get between patients and their health care. More than 16,000 lower-income patients in New Hampshire have relied on these funds to access annual exams, cancer screenings, and birth control.
Without the supplemental funds in the state budget, this care could be jeopardized for many of those patients.
This funding could have been available weeks ago, but Governor Sununu vetoed the state budget, placing an incredible hardship on providers throughout the state. We need our governor to do what’s right for Granite Staters: work with the Legislature to pass a budget that fully protects family planning in our state and keep partisan politics out of our health care.
