No faith in Sununu
To the Editor: After Gov. Sununu’s veto of Senate Bill 1, I have lost faith in his desire to make good on his promise to enact paid family and medical leave in New Hampshire.
The alternative to Senate Bill 1 touted by Gov. Sununu is an empty promise. It’s bad math packaged as freedom of choice.
Gov. Sununu seems to have leaned into all the worst impulses of his White House contemporaries, constantly saying the people of New Hampshire support his decision to veto the bill when public support for the kind of paid leave program within Senate Bill 1 stands at 78%.
He mocked people who came to his office urging him to sign the paid leave bill and lied about the crowd size. Sound familiar?!
In misrepresenting public support for Senate Bill 1 he is defrauding his constituents not only of their voice, but their very existence.
We need progress in the Granite State. We need a workforce prepared for 21st century challenges and jobs. We need new ideas, not a governor who will deceive the public in order to cover up being out of step with NH voters.
