Troubling transcript

To the Editor: I just read the transcript of the call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelenskiy. “Read(ing) The Transcript” was even worse than reports of quid pro quo. It’s hard to find words with which to explain how free-wheeling and “in-your-face” President Trump is in dealing with a foreign government to interfere in our elections.

At one point, President Zelenskiy lets the President know he has and will be using the D.C. Trump Hotel. I have no doubt President Trump was pleased his pockets were being lined by a foreign government. Trump also tells Zelenskiy to “negotiate” (my word) with Attorney General Barr and Rudy Giuliani rather than a State Department ambassador.

The transcript got bizarre when conversation turned to former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. President Trump threatens her. There is an orchestrated smear campaign against her.

Most troubling part of transcript to me: Any U.S. President can simply recall any ambassador, at any time for the simple reason that the President believes someone else is more in line with his way of thinking. What kind of mind first utilizes “cloak and dagger” tactics rather than a simple recall of an ambassador?
