Unjust attack

To the Editor: Last Sunday’s paper had an article pertaining to school board member Rich Girard’s reasons for not seeking reelection in November. Nice gesture for someone who served the city for many years. However, it sadly turned into an unfair and critical bashing of Mayor Craig and her record not only as the chair of the school board but beyond her responsibilities in that position.

With a city election just over two months away Girard’s comments were, without mentioning names, a veiled endorsement for Mayor Craig’s opponent. His canned political reason for not running again to spend more time with his family was understandable, as we all have to understand how many hours are spent away from home serving the public.

Ordinarily the purpose of the article was a generous idea by the Union Leader but allowing it to go off on an unjust personal attack on Mayor Craig was in extremely poor taste considering a city election next month.

The Union Leader’s printing of the article was shameful.
