Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk, who has been in concussion protocol since Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, had not been medically cleared as of Monday morning and is a “wild card” to return for Game 7, coach Bruce Cassidy said.
“We’ll have to make a decision if he gets cleared. He’s missed some games now,” Cassidy said at a news conference. “Do you want to mess with the back end?”
Grzelcyk took a hit in the first period of Game 2 from St. Louis Blues center Oskar Sundqvist, who received a minor penalty for boarding and later was suspended one game by the league’s Department of Player Safety.
Grzelcyk, 25, has three goals and four assists in 19 playoff games. His three goals match his total from the regular season, when he also had 15 assists in 66 games.
The Bruins won 5-1 in St. Louis on Sunday night to force the deciding seventh game in Boston on Wednesday.
