Dartmouth outshot St. Lawrence by a wide margin Friday night and the Big Green needed all of that edge in a 3-2 win over the Saints in Game 1 of their best-of-three ECAC first-round playoff match at Thompson Arena in Hanover.
Collin Rutherford's goal 3:40 into the second period, assisted by Shane Sellar, gave the Green a 3-1 lead.
Dartmouth led 2-1 after one as Drew O'Connor and Quin Foreman, on the power play, lit the lamp after the Saints took the early lead on a Ryan Garvey goal.
Dylan Woolf brought the Saints to within 3-2 at 9:45 of the second but Adrian Clark (14 saves) and the Big Green held St. Lawrence at bay.
Emil Zetterquist made 33 saves for the Saints as Dartmouth notched a 36-16 edge in shots on goal.
Game 2 is tonight at 7 at Thompson Arena.
