University of New Hampshire junior goalie Joe Lazzaro, of Hampstead, was named to the 2018-19 Hockey East All-Academic All-Star team, while 12 members of the team were selected to the 2018-19 Hockey East All-Academic team.
Lazzaro was selected to the All-Star team after maintaining the highest GPA of all goalies within Hockey East with a 3.93 during the 2018-19 season. Sophomore Benton Maass had the highest GPA on the team, earning a 3.96 for the 2018-19 season.
Lazzaro and junior Brendan van Riemsdyk along with red-shirt sophomore Patrick Grasso were three of 34 student-athletes from around the league to make the All-Academic team for the third time, while Maass and junior Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) are second-time honorees. Sophomore Kohei Sato and freshmen Joseph Cipollone, Angus Crookshank, Eric Esposito, Drew Hickey, Will MacKinnon and Ryan Verrier received this accolade for the first time.
A recording-setting 160 student-athletes from men's hockey teams around the league earned spots on this year's All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which his team was actively competing.
