New Hampton's Dempsey Arsenault logged a hat trick to help the Boston College women's lacrosse team advance to its third straight national championship game with a 15-14 double-overtime win over North Carolina in Baltimore on Friday.
Second-seeded Boston College will face the winner of Friday's late semifinal between top-seeded Maryland and fourth-seeded Northwestern in the national championship game Sunday at noon on ESPNU.
The Eagles fell to James Madison in the final last year and to Maryland in 2017.
Arsenault, a senior midfielder, tied the score at 13-13 with 3:07 left in regulation, when she scored her third goal of the game and 64th of the season. She also scooped up two ground balls.
Sam Apuzzo scored the game-winning goal -- her only tally of the game -- on North Carolina goalie Elise Hennessey, a junior from Londonderry, with 1:48 remaining in the second overtime. Cara Urbank led Boston College (22-1) in scoring with four goals. Fellow Eagles Kenzie Kent and Sheila Rietano each scored twice. Lauren Daly made seven saves for BC.
Hennessey (four saves) relieved Tar Heels starting goalie Taylor Moreno (10 saves) with 22:12 left in regulation. Jamie Ortega led third-seeded North Carolina (17-5) with seven points (five goals, two assists).
