Timberlane Regional product Julia Lanctot scored two goals to lead the Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team past Elms 4-2 in a season opener on Friday in New London.

In Colby-Sawyer coach Emily Dewdney’s debut, Chrissy Coffield of North Conway and Brittany North also scored.

The Chargers host Fitchburg State on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

NEC 3, Fitchburg State 1: Manchester Memorial grad Makenna Platte scored a goal in New England College’s 3-1 field hockey victory over host Fitchburg State on Friday.

Brittany Tierney and Zoe Pedler also scored for the Pilgrims in their season opener.

NEC’s next game is at Framingham State on Saturday, Sept. 7 (2 p.m.).

UNH women's soccer team wins, 3-1

Meghan Rumbold scored on a free kick early in the second half broke a tie and sent the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer past Merrimack College 3-1 in the TD Bank Classic in Burlington, Vt.

Rumbold’s goal broke a 1-1 tie. Ally Reynolds added an insurance goal. Earlier, Whitney Wiley tied the game after Merrimack had taken a 1-0 lead.

Cat Sheppard stopped three of four Merrimack shots to earn the victory. She is 2-1-0 in three career starts. UNH held Merrimack to no shots in the second half.

The Wildcats will stay in Burlington and play North Dakota State in the tournament on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
