The Saint Anselm women’s basketball team led early but fell to No. 12 Bentley 74-59 in a Northeast-10 Conference semifinal on Thursday night in Waltham, Mass.

Durham’s Sara Messler had a double-double for the Hawks, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Peyton Steinman led all Saint Anselm players in scoring with 18 points. Shannon Ryan chipped in 13.

The Hawks are 19-9. Bentley, which received 13 points from Jaffrey’s Maddy Springfield, advanced to the NE-10 championship game against Le Moyne.

NHTI needs volleyball coach

The NHTI women’s volleyball team is looking for a head coach for the 2019 fall season.

Mercier leads PSU lacrosse team in opener

Boscawen’s Chase Mercier scored three goals and added three assists to lead the Plymouth State University men’s lacrosse team past the University of New England 12-11 in a non-conference opener on Thursday in Biddeford, Maine.

Casey Elkins and Connor Delea of Manchester added three goals each for the Panthers. Goalie Zel Kerkel of Loudon made 16 saves to earn the win.

Yerrington pitches Hawks to win

Manchester’s Preston Yerrington pitched a four-hitter over six innings to help the Saint Anselm College baseball team to 6-2 victory over Paine College on Wednesday in Augusta, Ga.

Yerrington fanned nine and allowed two runs. Tyler McKeon’s bases-clearing triple in the second inning was the big blow of the game.

Paine won the nightcap of the doubleheader, 10-9.

Saint Anselm takes a 2-7 record into today’s game against Kutztown in Wilson, N.C.
