Saint Anselm College and first-year Division II program Franklin Pierce University are pegged to take the final two positions in the eight-team Northeast-10 Conference preseason football poll.

New Haven was chosen by the league’s head coaches to finish first. The Chargers received seven first-place votes and 63 points overall. Assumption finished second with 54 points, including the remaining two first-place votes.

The conference has nine teams this fall after LIU Post and Merrimack moved up to Division I.

Durham’s Rose hired by St. Michael's

Durham native Quinn Rose on Tuesday was announced as Saint Michael’s College’s women’s lacrosse coach.

Rose comes from Pomfret (Conn.) School, where she served as varsity girls’ lacrosse head coach and varsity field hockey assistant coach. She also served as a history teacher, dean, academic adviser and dorm parent.

During her undergraduate years, Rose starred in lacrosse at Williams College.

Colby-Sawyer third in preseason field hockey poll

The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team was selected to finish third in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The Chargers, who will be led by first-year coach Emily Dewdney, finished with 57 points. Saint Joseph’s College of Maine earned all nine first-place votes and 81 points, and Lasell College was pegged for second, with 72 points.

Voting for the poll was done by the league’s head coaches.

Colby-Sawyer opens Friday, Aug. 30 at home against Elms.
