The University of New Hampshire and host Colgate battled through 110 minutes of soccer on Friday without anyone scoring a goal.

The scoreless tie makes the No. 22 Wildcats 2-0-1.

UNH fired four shots on goal to two for the Raiders. Wildcats goalie Alejandro Robes notched the shutout, his second of the season.

UNH plays next on Sunday night at Syracuse.

Women's soccer: SNHU triumphs

Freshman Jordan Butters scored a pair of goals as the SNHU women's soccer team beat Mercy 4-2 on Friday night in an opener in Hooksett. Alexis Fruzzetti and Allyson Patterson also scored for the Penmen, who host second-ranked and defending national champ Bridgeport on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Saint Anselm gridders beaten, 59-13

California (Pa.) built a 35-6 halftime lead and beat the Saint Anselm College football team 59-13 in a season opener on Friday night at Grappone Stadium in Goffstown.

The Hawks scored their lone touchdown on a 19-yard pass from Phillip Tran to Kimothy Bynum in the fourth quarter. Joey Cody kicked a pair of field goals for the hosts, who were outgained, 399-279.

Saint Anselm also fumbled four times, losing three of them. One was returned 85 yards for a TD.

California also scored on a 17-yard interception return.

Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Assumption.
