The Plymouth State University men’s hockey team was picked to defend its MASCAC title in voting by the league’s seven head coaches.

The Panthers collected five first-place votes to finish with 34 points, while UMass Dartmouth earned the final two first-places vote for 29 points. Westfield State (25), Salem State (20), Fitchburg State (19), Worcester State (14) and Framingham State (six) rounded out the poll.

Head coach Craig Russell’s team opens Friday (7 p.m.) at home against No. 15 Salve Regina.
