Saint Anselm’s Chris Paul, shown during action last season, leads the Hawks into the 2019-20 season.

The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team is tied for first in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball East Region Preseason Media Poll announced on Monday.

The Hawks have 57 points, tying with Daemen atop the poll. Each team notched three first-place votes.

Saint Anselm beat Bishop's University of Canada 91-63 on Saturday in a preseason exhibition contest. The regular season officially starts on Friday with a 5 p.m. game against Concordia (N.Y.) at the Bentley Tip-Off Classic.

Saint Anselm, which won the NCAA Division II East Region Championship in 2019, is projected to finish first in the league's Northeast Division, according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Ranked 21st in the country by the National Association of Basketball Coaches last week, the Hawks are eyeing an eighth straight NCAA appearance.

Junior Chris Paul, an honorable mention all-conference pick by the NE10, returns a season after ranking second on the Hawks with 14.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
