Hooksett’s Max Curran, a key player on the Maryland Baltimore County basketball team, will have surgery on his hand on Feb. 11 and is done for the season, according to UMBC’s sports information department.

UMBC, fresh off its victory at Vermont on Wednesday, visits UNH today at 1 p.m. in an America East contest. The Retrievers at 12-9 overall, 4-2 in America East.

Curran, a former Pembroke Academy star, has not played since Dec. 16. The junior forward was averaging 7.5 points through 12 games, hitting for a season-high of 20 against American U. on Nov. 24.

The Retrievers shocked the basketball world last March when they became the first No. 16 seed to beat a No. 1 seed (Virginia) in NCAA Tournament history.
