University of New Hampshire freshman linebacker Oleh Manzyk had himself a game in the Wildcats' 26-10 win over Elon University at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday, finishing with eight tackles, three sacks and a 55-yard pick six.
The performance earned him national, regional and conference honors, including STATs FCS National Freshman Player of the Week, the New England Football Writers Association Division I Gold Helmet Award, and Colonial Athletic Association Football Rookie of the Week, as was announced Monday.
The tackles and sacks were all career-highs for Manzyk, a product of Langhorne, Pa., while the interception was his first. His previous bests came in UNH's Week 3 win over the University of Rhode Island. Manzyk racked up seven tackles and a sack against the Rams.
Manzyk's interception occurred with 4:07 remaining in the first quarter and increased UNH's lead to 13-3.
Through five games, the Wildcats are 3-2, and Manzyk has 25 tackles -- 17 solo -- and four sacks to his credit. UNH is at Stony Brook this Saturday night.
UNH received three votes in the FCS Coaches Poll on Monday. Dartmouth received 26 votes.
