Eight starters had a hit as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-6 on Saturday in Eastern League play in Richmond, Va.
The teams complete their three-game weekend series Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
New Hampshire took the lead in the first on Forrest Wall's fourth home run of the season. A four-run third put the Fisher Cats in the driver's seat. Brock Lundquist doubled home two, and Santiago Espinal and Alberto Mineo had RBI singles as New Hampshire led 5-0.
Richmond got three back in the bottom of the third on a three-run homer by Johneshwy Fargas.
Nash Knight's RBI double in the fourth made it 6-3 New Hampshire, but Richmond got two in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Jonah Arenado and a run-scoring double by Gio Brusa to make it 6-5.
The teams traded runs in the ninth. Josh Palacios doubled home wall to give the Fisher Cats a critical insurance run as Richmond loaded the bases with none out in the ninth, but the Fisher Cats got out of the inning allowing only one run as Jacob Heyward grounded into a double play, which scored a run but extinguished the threat.
Dany Jimenez (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless one-hit relief. Scott Baker notched his fifth save.
