After clinching a playoff spot one night earlier, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats bashed seven extra-base hits in a 7-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in an Eastern League contest on Sunday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester.
Jon Berti led the charge with a homer and two doubles as the Fisher Cats outhit Binghamton 12-6 to take the series, two games to one. New Hampshire’s 9-7 win on Saturday night, made possible by Max Pentecost’s three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, put the team into the postseason for the first time in seven years. The Fisher Cats lead the East Division by two games over Trenton; their magic number to clinch the division and earn home field advantage for the playoffs is seven.
On Sunday, Bo Bichette added a double and single in the offensive attack.
Starter T.J. Zeuch (9-4) earned the victory with five innings of one-run ball. He allowed four hits and three walks, fanning two. Justin Dillon and Zach Jackson each pitched two innings of scoreless ball, allowing only one hit apiece.
The Fisher Cats start a four-game series tonight in Portland.
