Right-hander Jordan Romano, who went 11-8 in 2018 for the Toronto Blue Jays’ Double-A team, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, was acquired by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League Baseball Rule 5 Draft on Thursday. The White Sox then traded Romano to Texas.

Romano was the third pick in the Rule 5 Draft.

The Rule 5 Draft allows teams with room on their 40-man roster to select certain players from other teams who were left off their organization’s 40-man roster.

The biggest stipulation of the major league portion of the Rule 5 Draft is that a team that selects a player in the draft must keep that player on its active 25-man roster for the entirety of the subsequent season or be forced to put that player on waivers and offer him back to the team from which he was selected should he clear waivers.
