Max Pentecost's three-run homer in the eighth inning lifted the Fisher Cats to a wild 9-7 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fisher Cats clinched a spot in the Eastern League playoffs with the win.
New Hampshire seemed on the way to a win in the top of the eighth, but a throwing error by Santiago Espinal allowed two runs to score, giving Binghamton a 7-6 lead.
Jon Berti walked with one out and Forrest Wall singled him to second before Pentecost's blast over the right-field wall off reliever David Roseboom (3-3), who took the loss.
The Fisher Cats took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Harold Ramirez and Connor Panas.
The Rumble Ponies scored five runs in the third to take the lead. J.J. Franco and John Mora each had RBI doubles to make it 3-2, then Joey Terdoslavich tacked on an RBI single and Andrew Ely and RBI walk. That spelled the end for New Hampshire starter Hector Perez, who allowed five hits and five runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Connor Panas homered in the fourth, his ninth of the year, to get one back for New Hampshire. The Fisher Cats took the lead in the fifth, 6-5, with a three-run outburst on an RBI triple by Wall, an RBI single by Pentecost and an RBI single by Espinal.
Pentcost went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs. Panas drove in two. Travis Bergen (4-1) got the win in relief.
