The Binghamton Rumble Ponies hit three homers in the ninth inning and beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12-9 on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester. The Fisher Cats could have clinched an Eastern League playoff spot with a win and Reading loss.
Reading beat Portland 5-4 in 10 innings, which means the Fisher Cats' magic number for clinching a playoff spot remains two. They host Binghamton again tonight at 7:05 p.m.
Binghamton's Jhoan Urena opened the ninth inning with a solo homer to tie the game at 8-8. Pinch-hitter Andrew Ely later delivered the key blow, a three-run homer to give the Ponies the lead. Joey Terdoslavich followed with an inside-the-park homer. All three homers came against reliever Dusty Isaacs (3-4).
New Hampshire, which held an 8-5 lead heading to the seventh, was outhit, 16-11.Jon Berti had a two-run single and an RBI triple in the ninth, and Juan Kelly homered.
