Maniel Melendez' two-run double in the 10th inning lifted the Hartford Yard Goats to a 3-1 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Eastern League play Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester on Saturday night.
Hartford's Arvicent Perez began the 10th inning on second base against Fisher Cats reliever Bryan Baker (1-1). Walks to Bret Boswell and Vance Vizcaino loaded the bases, and Melendez' double to left scored Perez and Boswell with the winning runs.
Hartford took the lead on Boswell's solo homer, his third of the season, in the second. Gunnar Heidt tied it up for the Fisher Cats in the seventh with his first homer of the season.
Heath Holder (2-1) earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Ben Bowden notched his ninth save.
Both starters were outstanding. Hartford's Ty Culbreth went six innings, allowing no runs and three hits, striking out eight. The Fisher Cats' Hector Perez went six, allowing one run and three hits, striking out six. Willy Ortiz pitched three innings of hitless relief for New Hampshire.
Each team notched only four hits.
The teams complete their four-game series Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
