Kevin Smith hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats kept the heat on in a 16-1 victory at Reading on Sunday in an Eastern League game.

Smith, Josh Palacios, Santiago Espinal and Vinny Capra had three hits each in the Fisher Cats’ 17-hit attack. Two of Palacios’ hits were doubles.

The 16 runs were a season high for the Fishers.

New Hampshire led 8-0 in the third inning and tacked on eight more over the final two innings. Fisher Cats Hector Perez (6-4) went six scoreless inning and allowed three hit to get the win. He walked four and struck out four.

New Hampshire returns home to face Harrisburg Monday night at 7. It's the opener of a seven-day, eight-game homestand at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
