New Hampshire's Patrick Murphy had a rough night in the Fisher Cats' 9-4 loss to the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night in Bowie, Md.
Starting pitcher Murphy (4-7) allowed eight runs and 10 hits in four innings, walking two and fanning two. He left the game with New Hampshire trailing 8-0.
Bowie got two in the first inning on RBI singles by Rylan Bannon and T.J. Nichting. Yusniel Diaz clocked a three-run homer in the second to raise the lead to 5-0, and Ademar Rifaela drove in three with a bases-loaded triple in the fourth to make it 8-0.
New Hampshire got a three-run homer from Kevin Smith in the seventh to cut the deficit to five, but Bowie tacked on a run in the eighth on Preston Palmeiro's RBI double. New Hampshire added a run in the ninth on a fielding error.
Ryan McKenna, who attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, went 1-for-4, scoring twice for Bowie.
Marcos Molina (4-5) got the win for Bowie, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked one.
The Fisher Cats head to Richmond, Va., on Friday to face the Flying Squirrels at 7:05 p.m.
