Reliever Jake Fishman escaped unscathed from a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the eighth inning as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the host Trenton Thunder 5-2 in an Eastern League game on Friday night.
Alberto Mineo had a double and single for three runs batted in, Chad Spanberger added a double and single, scored once and knocked in a run. Also, Santiago Espinal had two singles and scored twice as New Hampshire won its third straight.
The teams play again in Trenton tonight at 7.
Fishman's eighth-inning problem was of his own making. Taking a 5-2 lead into the inning, he allowed a pair of singles and a walk before fanning David Metzgar and Rashad Crawford, then getting Kyle Holder to ground out.
Bryan Baker worked around a two-out single for a scoreless ninth, earning his seventh save. Hector Perez (5-3) who pitched six innings of one-run ball, earned the win.
