Members of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats picked up a little bit of hardware on Saturday as the Eastern League announced its annual end-of-the-year awards.
Cavan Biggio was a double winner for New Hampshire as he earned both the league’s Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year honors while manager John Schneider was voted Manager of the Year. The awards are voted on by Eastern League managers, coaches and media members.
Biggio becomes the first Fisher Cat ever to win the Rookie of the Year award and is the first league MVP from New Hampshire since Travis D’Arnaud in 2011. He’s also the first Eastern League player to win both awards in the same season since Darin Ruf of the Reading Fightin’ Phils in 2012.
Schneider earns his first MiLB Manager of the Year honor in his first tour as a Double-A manager.
